SPEED TEST: G4 VS G5

The Test Machines are:
G4: G4 Dual 1GHz/768 meg ram/OSX10.2.6/ATI 9000 Radeon Pro w/ 64 Meg/AC8.0.0v3+ USA
G5/8.0: G5 Dual 2GHz/1.5 gig ram/OSX10.2.7(G5)/ATI 9600 Radeon Pro w/ 64 Meg/AC8.0.0v3+ USA
G5/8.1: G5 Dual 2GHz/1.5 gig ram/OSX10.3(7B85)/ATI 9600 Radeon Pro w/ 64 Meg/AC8.1.0v1 USA
They both have more than 40 gigs of free hard drive space, and were attached to the same Apple 22" Cinema Display.
Testing Procedure: Tests were timed by watching the Menu Bar Clock (+/- .5 seconds)

1. BOOT UP COMPUTER

4. LAUNCH PROJECT
Drag file to dock icon to file being opened (includes launching ArchiCAD and loading libraries)
Preparation: Open ArchiCAD Library 8.pla and "Extract elements to a folder" to create the ArchiCAD Library 8.lib library. Open Residential House.pla (in the ArchiCAD Examples folder) and "Extract elements to a folder" to create the Residential House.lib library. Save file as Residential House.pln. Create new folder "Res House.lib" and move stair 9.gsm and Zone_Stamp_01.gsm from Residential House.lib to Res House.lib. Go to File>Library Manager... and add the ArchiCAD Library 8.lib and Res House.lib libraries, remove all other libraries. Click "Done".
Now Drag "Residential House.pln" to the dock icon and wait until the libraries load and the file is open.

5. OPEN SECTION (Model)
Open section/elevation to model appearing in window
Preparation: Go to Options>Layers>Show All Layers to turn all layers. Stretch Sect/Elev A/1 (Model) [it runs through the stair] to match the length of Sect/Elev A (Drawing).
Now Control-Click on Sect/Elev A/1 and select "Open Section/Elevation" and wait for the model in the sect/elev window to appear.

6. REGENERATE SECTION (Model)
Regenerating section/elevation to revised model appearing in windowPreparation: In Sect/Elev window, select door on 2nd floor, open its dialog box and change "Trim" from "Off" to Both Side", click OK.
Now goto Display>Rebuild model S/E and wait for window to regenerate.

7. GENERATE HIDDEN LINE PERSPECTIVE
Open 3D window and generate perspectivePreparation: Options>Preferences>Imaging and Calculation>check "3D Settings changes bring 3D window to front". Switch to 2D window, open Camera/VR Settings dialog box, select Camera option, select camera 1 (camera should now be selected in 2D window). Go to Image>3D Window Settings...: 3D Engine=Internal Engine; Mode=Hidden Line; Methods, Hidden Line Mode=Analytic; Effects=all off; Display, Window Size in Pixels=1100x880; Line Weight=light; Background=Single Color; GDL Object Hotspots=Enable 2D Hotspots.
Now click OK and wait for model to be completely generated in 3D window.

8. GENERATE PHOTORENDERING
Generate PhotoRenderingPreparation: Image>PhotoRender Settings>Effects: Rendering Engine=ArchiCAD Rendering Engine; Method=Final; Antialiasing=Better; Effects=select all except Fog & Lamp Falloff; Light sources=Sun; Shadow casting=Sun (High Accuracy off); Options... check Texture antialiasing and set to mid point between Low/Fast and High/Slow. Size & Background: select Picture then select ArchiCAD Library 8.lib>Background Images 8>Photos 1024x768 8>Sky_cloudy1_photo.jpg; Resolution=72 dpi; Magnification=110%; Resulting Image=1100x880 Pixels; Resolution=72 dpi. Brightness: Image Brightness=Normal; Overexposure Correction=Darken overexposed surfaces; Partial PhotoRendering=Whole Image.
Now select Image>PhotoRender Projection and wait for rendering to finish (ArchiCAD should beep).

9. OPEN GL
Move in 3D window with Open GL enabledPreparation: Go to Image>3D Window Settings...: 3D Engine=OpenGL; Mode=Shading; Methods, Shaded Mode Contours=Best; Effects=all off; Display, Window Size in Pixels=1100x880; GDL Object Hotspots=Enable 2D Hotspots. Go to 2D window and deselect camera. Image>3D Projection Settings... change to Parallel Projection Settings: projection type=Side View; Azimuth=270&Mac251;; Sun Azimuth=315&Mac251;, Sun Altitude=35&Mac251;. Click OK and 3D window should appear. In the 3D Navigator Palette: change from Editing to Move mode; Motion Mode=left button.
Now place cursor on right hand side of 3D window (next to the scroll bar) midway between top and bottom and click to allow house to rotate 10 times (watch the Navigator Preview Palette to count number of rotations).

10. PUBLISH
Publish a set of pmk files to hard diskPreparation: Create a new folder named "Res House PMK" in Residential House folder (In ArchiCAD Examples Folder). Go to 2D window, change Navigator palette to Publisher Mode, on right side set View Set to Documentation, select all the drawings the the Stories, Sections, Elevations and Details folders and change their format to "PlotMaker". Click on View Set Publishing Properties: Publishing method=Save files; Path=...Res House PMK folder (click on browse to find this folder); select "Create flat file structure"; click OK. At the bottom of the Publisher palette change to "selected items".
Now click "Publish" button and wait for all files to be published (Publishing... dialog box will show "Index of Documentation" as checked).

11. QUIT ARCHICAD
Select ArchiCAD>Quit ArchiCAD to disappearance of black arrow on dock iconNote: When Save Changes dialog box appears, click "Save"
